Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse at Montana State Hospital provides skilled nursing care and support within a geriatric psychiatric setting. The role involves nursing assessment, planning, interventions, and evaluation for adult clients, ensuring a therapeutic environment. The RN also assigns work and trains subordinate nursing personnel, emphasizing strong communication, de-escalation skills, and collaboration within the interdisciplinary team. A minimum of two years' experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing and current Montana RN licensure are required.

Responsibilities:

• Perform nursing assessments, develop care plans, and implement nursing interventions for adult psychiatric clients.
• Provide skilled nursing care focused on geriatric psychiatric patients.
• Assign work and provide direction and training to subordinate nursing personnel.
• Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments and care.
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize technology related to patient care information systems proficiently.
• Support and maintain a therapeutic and safe environment for clients.
• Employ de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention as needed.
• Adhere to patient rights and current psychopharmacology knowledge in treatment planning.
• Participate in shift activities including meal provisions and shift differential as applicable.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Montana (or compact license).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in geriatric psychiatric nursing.
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a degree in nursing.
• Knowledge of nursing, medications, treatment planning, and patient rights.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform accurate patient assessments and documentation.
• Proficiency with patient care technology and information systems.
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience working in psychiatric inpatient treatment programs.
• At least 1 year of travel nursing contract experience.
• Advanced de-escalation and crisis intervention skills.

Special Considerations:

• Must be flexible with facility scheduling and shift assignments.
• Experience and comfort working in a geriatric psychiatric hospital environment.
• Shift differential may be available.
• One meal provided per shift.

Scheduling:

• Shifts typically from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM with flexibility to accommodate facility needs.
• Scheduling is flexible according to facility requirements and nurse availability.
